Where I'm From: Gallery Exhibition
event production sponsorship public relations print production marketing
02.10.2024 - 03.08.2024
A month-long exhibition, Where I'm From, was a collaborative effort between Vancouver artists Jeremy Jude Lee and Megan Kwan. Featuring a collection of 55 photographs, the site-specific installation* explored themes of (be)longing captured during Vancouver's summer time in conversation with physical objects and locations nostalgic to the Asian-Canadian experience.
Set in Strathcona's distinctive neighbourhood and supported by the Strathcona Business Improvement Association (SBIA), the exhibition collages cinematic photography and video with everyday artifacts, rediscovering the lesser-seen beauties of Vancouver while highlighting the mutual influence of Asian culture in a Western world.
The exhibition was the product of a two-year vision that came to life in less than three months of planning. Launching on Lunar New Year, the opening weekend brought over 350 people to the exhibition, resulting to significant and constant foot traffic to the Strathcona neighbourhood throughout the month. Visitors were encouraged to actively engage in the art, looking in and out to see the entire cinematic scenes that transition from day-to-night into an immersive night market scene that was home to a portable video installation, titled Memories I'll Forget.
